knitted baby booties - crafting runs in the family

I should change the name of my blog to "handmade by Lili and mum". My mum is an amazing crafter, so she deserves a spot on the blog! She knits like the best, but there are so many other crafting techniques she's mastered over the years. Embroidery, quilting, cross stitching, crochet, hardanger, ... name it, she's done it. Lately, she's been making knitted baby booties, and I thought they were too cute not to share.

Kringloopwinkel - thrift finds

Another possible new series of posts: my Kringloopwinkel finds. I love to go and check out what they have in store. It caters for my flea market needs - since there are no open-air flea markets during winter time ...

So, what did I find? The thrift store had a "retro day" two weeks ago, and usually, everything is sold and gone within the hour. Not in Leuven apparently, where I went this week: lots and lots of sewing finds!

1. First of all: lots of passementerie ribbon. I don't know what I'll do with it, but I couldn't let that pass. They're vintage, and I love it. Any ideas welcome off course!

Just look at the goodness. There were more, I'm thinking about going back and buy some more ...

2. Vintage fabrics. Love love loooove this blue flowery fabric, off course. It's sturdy cotton and I'm sure it will make a lovely dress. The orange was just too vintage not to buy. If I don't use it myself, I'm sure some other people will :-)

Summer wardrobe - stripe top

This might be the beginning of a new series: the garments I make/made for my summer wardrobe. Below, some pictures of the top I finally managed to finish. I even took it to my parents' place two weeks ago, in case I might have found the time (and the itch) to finish it. I didn't finish it there, but during sewing "class" Tuesday night. Finally something I can tick off my to-do list.
I must say I had quite some trouble attaching the border at the neckline; it kept curling up and it almost took the fun out of it. And I really like the stripey fabric, it's a beautiful jersey fabric, but to align those stripes ... It was a bit more difficult than I had expected: I thought I could just whip it together in a blast, but it just took a bit longer. I'm happy it's finished, and it looks nice. I bought the fabric at the local fabric shop in Leuven (Pauli) and might go get some more, so I can make this skirt - it's been on my to-do list for quite a while now ...

Pimp your fridge - with pixels!

When I saw this post, I immediately knew the paint chips I had would be put to good use. It's as easy as it's described in the blog post: cut squares out of your paint chips, put a little piece of magnetic tape (you can buy this at the Hema in Belgium) at the back of each piece and start creating! The possibilities are endless: I only had blue paint chips, but I'll sure get other colors now that I know what you can make out of them!
